Maternity Body Pillows a Must for Moms-to-Be! |

July 17, 2005 By: Carole Bertrand Maternity Body Pillows a Must for Moms-to-Be!In pregnancy, especially the third trimester can bring discomfort when lying down. Lying on one’s back is usually uncomfortable but lying on one’s side is not much better because the extra weight causes a feeling of pulling the side down. Conventional pillows just won’t do the trick to achieve any king of support and comfort. Therefore many women turn to maternity body pillows which are designed specifically to alleviate discomfort during pregnancies. A maternity body pillow is made to support the growing belly and the lower back at the same time. There are different versions to choose. Some pregnancy body pillows have two support cushions with an adjustable Velcro strap in between the two cushions. This helps you adjust for your personal comfort and they also serve as convenient carry handles. Another type is the Sleeping Bean Body Pillow which is a large body size pillow which can either be filled with goose feathers, polyfill and even veggie fill(natural tree seed fiber). They are about 5 feet long for perfect huggability. I have even found one that is over six feet long and is bent in a U shape to help you sleep during the later part of your pregnancy when no position is comfortable. Which ever you choose, a body pillow is a life saver for pregnant women trying to find a comfortable sleeping position and can even help in the delivery room for labor positioning. After their pregnancies, nursing mothers can use their maternity pillow when nursing their newborn. These pillows are recommended by doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists whenever proper support can be beneficial for pregnancy and nursing, back problems, sleep disorders, post-operative recovery, geriatric care, and relief of both physical and emotional stress.
